IVF is a process in which a woman’s eggs are removed and fertilized with a man’s sperm in a laboratory.  The fertilized eggs are implanted into the female uterus to achieve pregnancy.

Treatment consultation

Stimulation of ovaries

The IVF process begins by administering certain injections to stimulate ovaries to  recruite some eggs. There are two types of protocols, long and antagonist protocols; which one to proceed with will depend on past and present medical history.

Ultrasound examination

During the treatment , the response of your ovaries to the injections is examined by calling you in short intervals to examine you. The IVF specialist will call you to assess the response of your ovaries and may ask you to cancel the IVF cycle if the response is poor.

TRIGGER

A Trigger injection will be needed for final maturation of eggs and preparation for collection. The eggs will be collected after 34 to 36 hours of injection.

Egg collection

It is done under anaesthesia, the eggs are removed from ovaries with help of trans vaginal sonography. This procedure will take 15 to 20 min. The number of eggs removed will depend on your body’s response to the injection.

Collection of sperm

On the day of egg collection, the IVF fertility center will ask male partner to collect semen sample.  If not possible to produce semen on the same day, the reserved one can be used.

Fertilization

These eggs will be fertilized in the lab ICSI. The IVF specialist will examine the eggs for fertilization and further development of embryos.

Pregnancy test

after two weeks of embryo transfer pregnancy check is done with blood test. If test comes positive ultrasound is done to locate pregnancy.

IUI Process

What is IUI?

After all the investigations, patient is given drugs for increasing the size of follicles along with injections for the same.

Ultrasound monitoring of follicles are done.

Trigger is given when follicles attain a certain size.

Husband sample is processed on the day of IUI. And this sample is then inseminated inside uterus with the help of thin canula transvaginally.

What are the Risks During IUI?

Spotting

During the process, where the catheter in the uterus is placed, there are chances of bleeding around the vaginal area. But it will not have any effect on women while they get pregnant.

Infection

There’s a slight risk of developing an infection around the vagina of women when the process of IUI is completed.

Multiple Pregnancies

There are chances of getting pregnant with triplets, twins, or more. This will automatically lead to higher risk than a single pregnancy, including early labor and low birth weight.
